Outlander Mid-season Premiere in NYC

My friends, Droughtlander is OVER and it feels so good!

I was lucky enough to get to see Episode 9 with a bunch of other lovely fans in NYC on Wednesday. I took my mom with me, as it was her first big event/fan experience and she had a wonderful time!

We arrived in the afternoon on Tuesday and checked into our hotel which was right next to Time Square. We stood in the pouring rain because it’s TIME SQUARE, got some pizza, and planned to get up early to meet the Outlander street team at Good Morning America for some t-shirts and fun!

Oh hey! I made it on Good Morning America! Well, like 3/4 of my face. 🙂

After that mom and I visited Rockefeller center and central park.

We even scoped out the event location.

Then we headed back to our room to get ready. Met up with some friends and hopped in line. After a long wait, we were herded through the ticket line and right into a most beautiful sight! Actual costumes worn on set, including the most beautiful wedding dress ever to grace the screen. It was so wonderful to see them so up close.

Once we made it into the theater we were shown to our seats (6th row, middle!) and waited for the show to start. To avoid spoilers until the episode officially airs, I’ll just say it is probably my favorite of the show so far. It handles some scenes that could so easily be misjudged and criticized and made them so meaningful to the story and make so much sense. Besides that some scenes are just HOT. It’s a sexy show, but it’s also so full of heart and courage.

Once the show was over the cast did a brief Q&A. It was short but the cast was upbeat and witty. Which can’t be easy considering all the press they’ve been doing lately.

Are there a lot of pictures of Tobias? I LOVE me some Tobias. In fact, after the show I was able to get a picture and autograph with him. Not the first time I’ve met him, and he was still just as generous and kind. Love him!

We had a fantastic night and most importantly my mother had a wonderful first fan event. Spending time with my mother and getting to share something that is so exciting and important to me was so meaningful. She’s the best!

I also want to thank Starz for the swag – including a flask and t-shirt from the street team. Was super fun!

That said, I do feel the need to address that not everyone had a great night at this event. Some people with guaranteed tickets did not make it into the 7pm show, and some people didn’t make it at ALL, even with the 9pm show. I’m not sure what happened, but despite my good time, I want to express my empathy at waiting in a freezing cold line and receiving nothing except a freezing cold line. I’m so sorry if that happened to you. ❤ And I hope that with any new events we attend, we all have a better time.

Now please, enjoy episode 109, The Reckoning!

Outlander Premiere Party

On the night of Episode 102 I am finally uploading pictures from our premiere party for Episode 101!

My aunt was kind and generous enough to host the party. I originally gave her Outlander (evangelist you know) and she in turn gave copies and spread the good word to her friends as well. We had a couple husbands wear kilts, I ordered a cake and we got this party started!

We had amazing food, and a great time laughing and watching the first episode of our new favorite show Outlander.

And now we’re about 1 hour away from 102…. hope you’re watching!

Outlander San Diego Comic Con Premiere

So let’s talk about Outlander the show for a second. If for some incredible reason you haven’t heard about Outlander yet, you can watch the first episode for FREE here:

I was lucky enough to be invited to watch the world premiere in San Diego on July 25th.

Once I figured out the logistics of getting myself and the hubs there, we were good to go! Despite having very few instructions or expectations, I was beyond excited to have the opportunity to see the show on the big screen with a thousand other fans, and the cast themselves in our audience as well.

No trip to San Diego during Comic Con is complete without a walk down to the Convention Center. Even if you aren’t lucky enough to get tickets into the center (I wasn’t!) it’s an experience to just be downtown watching all the people dressed up and the activities that are going on outside. I lived in San Diego for years and never really appreciated what a spectacle it really was!

After meeting up with my friends we scoped out Spreckel’s Theater,  where the premiere was going to be held. The energy was heightening and we soon headed back to the hotel to get dressed and ready.

While we were getting dressed our lovely cast was having their panel which you can watch here:

Once dressed we headed back to the theater and lined up at Will Call to collect our tickets. I guess I should stop and mention that yes, the hubs is in a kilt. Quite fitting for the show and quite fetching if I do say so myself. Several of the ladies in line got pictures with him, and he blended right in to the handsome men actually working the event. Kilts are hot, you guys. Once through Will Call we went behind the Plaid Carpet and into the theater to find our seats. The whole inside of the theater was decorated with handsome men in kilts, and a set up of odds and ends Claire may have used.

I also had the opportunity to meet some of the cast/crew as they were entering the theater.

IMG_6841 IMG_6846 IMG_6854 IMG_6855

Maril, co-executive producer, Bear McCreary, composer. Then Diana Gabaldon (author), and Ron Moore, producer. And Graham McTavish, Dougal.

After seeing all of them walk in and being frozen on the spot I finally got up the nerve to ask for a picture with Tobias Menzies, who is quite possibly the sweetest ever.

Talk about making one a friend of Frank. A doll of a man!

Then walked in Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, and I took the opportunity to ask Caitriona for a picture.

IMG_6866 IMG_6871

She complimented my dress, and I thanked her for her hard work and she said she hoped we all enjoyed the show. She stunned me with her beauty and her openness when faced with what is surely an exhausting and overwhelming adventure.

IMG_6880 IMG_6873 IMG_6896

Once in the theater we all took our seats (oh, I also got a picture with Graham McTavish!) and the cast and Diana were introduced, then Bear McCreary and a violinist gave us a concert, and a familiar piece you may have heard was sung.

After the show (which I’ll review later) the cast, Diana, and Ron had a brief Q&A which you can see here:

IMG_6903 IMG_6904 IMG_6905 IMG_6907 IMG_6908 IMG_6909 IMG_6910

After the show hubs and I got to walk the plaid carpet, touch the stones, and we were interviewed by Starz on our reaction on the show. You may see us at 1:10 here:

I had the most incredible night. Besides getting to meet some of the cast, I most enjoyed getting to dress up with my friends and watch the show surrounded by people that truly love and appreciate all the hard work that has gone into it. Even my husband has been quoting some of the lines from the first episode.

I have been told by several people in this industry that this was really a once in a lifetime experience. It’s not common for shows to open premiere’s to fans, let alone let the actors sit with an audience of fans and give us the honor of being so close to them that made this. I will treasure the experience knowing that, and be forever grateful that I was able to come and be a part of what will surely be a moment of history, when everyone is watching Outlander and we get many more seasons to come.

Thank you so much to Starz for the invitation, and a wonderful experience.
